# EX1500 Series

## The Derya EX1500 is a lever-action shotgun chambered in .410 bore, manufactured by Parantez R&D Defense (a subsidiary of Derya). Built on a mono-block steel receiver with a 5-round tubular magazine and a smooth-bore barrel threaded for Benelli/Beretta Mobilchoke-pattern choke tubes, it is designed for small game, pest control, and recreational shooting.

#### **EX1500 Series** *Work the Lever. Own the Field.*

The EX1500 is Derya's lever-action .410 shotgun — a mono-block steel receiver, smooth short-throw lever, and 5-round tubular magazine chambered for the soft-shooting, small-game-perfect .410 shotshell. Every model wears the same furniture as Derya's RAN lever-action rifles — the patented Ironwolf tactical stock and M-LOK forend on the 18", Turkish walnut on the 20" and 24" — and every barrel is threaded internally for Benelli/Beretta Mobilchoke-pattern choke tubes, so you can tighten or open your pattern for the job at hand. Available with 18", 20", or 24" barrels, the EX1500 covers tactical, classic, and heirloom-grade preferences.

#### **Sights**

All EX1500 models include a fixed front iron sight and an adjustable rear sight with an integrated Picatinny rail for red dots, scout scopes, or long-eye-relief optics. The rear sight can be used as a traditional iron sight with the rail unused. Rifle-style sights are a real advantage on a .410: they let you place slugs precisely and center tight turkey and buckshot patterns, where a bead alone leaves little margin. Zero the rear sight for your chosen slug load at 25 to 50 yards.

#### **Material Used and Finish Process**

- **Receiver:** Mono-block steel, forged from 1040 steel, CNC machined and heat-treated. The single-piece design eliminates jointed components for greater structural integrity, smoother cycling, and less vibration under recoil.
- **Barrel:** 4140 steel, smooth bore, threaded internally at the muzzle for Benelli/Beretta Mobilchoke-pattern choke tubes; 18", 20", or 24" length depending on model. There is no external muzzle thread.
- **Forend:** Rugged aluminum M-LOK forend with Picatinny rail on the Ironwolf Tactical; Turkish walnut with M-LOK slots on the walnut models.
- **Stock:** Patented Ironwolf adjustable aluminum buttstock on the Tactical; laser-engraved Turkish walnut on the walnut models.
- **Finish Process:** In-house black Melonite on all steel parts of the Ironwolf Tactical for wear and corrosion resistance; nickel on the 20" walnut model for protection and a classic look; engraved hard chrome on the 24" walnut model.

#### **Frequently Asked Questions on EX1500**

###### **Chokes**

**Q: Does the EX1500 have interchangeable chokes?**
*A: Yes. Every EX1500 barrel is threaded internally for Benelli/Beretta Mobilchoke-pattern choke tubes in .410 bore. To change tubes, unload the shotgun, unscrew the installed tube with the choke wrench from the Derya bag, wipe the threads clean, thread the new tube in by hand, and snug it with the wrench.*

**Q: Which choke tubes fit the EX1500?**
*A: Any .410-bore tube made for the Beretta/Benelli Mobilchoke ("Mobil") system — Beretta factory tubes and aftermarket tubes from Carlson's, Trulock, Jeb's, and others sold as "Beretta/Benelli Mobil .410." Choke tubes are gauge-specific, so 12, 20, and 28 gauge Mobilchoke tubes will not fit, and Beretta Optima-Choke, Optima HP, Benelli Crio, and Browning Invector tubes are different thread systems that must never be forced in.*

**Q: What chokes come with the EX1500?**
*A: A Mobilchoke-pattern choke set and wrench ship with the EX1500: Full, Modified and Cylinder.*

**Q: How do I tell which choke tube is which?**
*A:* Mobilchoke tubes are notched on the rim: 1 notch = Full, 2 = Improved Modified, 3 = Modified, 4 = Improved Cylinder, 5 = Cylinder. Extended aftermarket tubes are usually labeled on the body.

**Q: Which choke should I use?**
A:

- *Full: turkey, squirrels in tall timber, and the longest shots with birdshot (out to about 30 yards)*
- *Modified: general small game, rabbits, doves, and pests at 20 to 30 yards*
- *Improved Cylinder: close small game and pests, buckshot, and slugs*
- *Cylinder: slugs, buckshot, and very close range*

*A 2½" .410 shell carries only ½ oz of shot, so choke matters more than it does in a 12 gauge — pattern your load at the distance you intend to shoot before you hunt.*

**Q: Can I fire the EX1500 without a choke tube installed?**
*A: No. Firing with no tube in place lets the shot and wad hammer the exposed choke threads, which ruins the threads and can bulge the muzzle. Check choke tightness periodically; a tube that backs out can be damaged or lost.*

**Q: Can I use a turkey or extra-full choke?**
*A: Yes. Extended .410 turkey chokes for the Beretta/Benelli Mobil system — for example Carlson's TSS Turkey (.380"–.385" exit), Trulock, Jeb's Head Hunter, and Indian Creek (.380"–.390") — fit the EX1500. Use them only with the loads they are rated for, and never fire slugs or buckshot through a turkey choke.*

**Q: Can I shoot steel or other non-toxic shot?**
*A: Steel .410 loads are rare. If you use them, use only a tube marked steel-shot compatible and no tighter than Modified — never Full or Improved Modified. Bismuth is soft and safe through any choke. TSS turkey loads are designed for Full and dedicated turkey chokes.*

**Q: Can I mount a suppressor or muzzle device on the EX1500?**
*A: No. The EX1500 has internal choke threads only; there is no external muzzle thread. Derya does not support choke-thread adapters or muzzle devices on the EX1500, and installing one voids the warranty.*

**Ammunition**

**Q: What gauge and shell length does the EX1500 use?**
*A: .410 bore, 2½" shotshells only. Do not use 3" shells: they will not chamber correctly, they jam the lifter, and if forced they can cause excess pressure. The chamber length is marked on the barrel.*

**Q: Is .410 a gauge?**
*A: No. .410 is a bore diameter (0.410"), not a gauge — by weight of shot it would be roughly 67 gauge. ".410 bore," ".410 gauge," and "410" all refer to the same shell.*

**Q: Can I shoot .45 Colt or any other cartridge in the EX1500?**
*A: No. The EX1500 is a shotgun chambered only for .410 shotshells. Never load .45 Colt or any metallic cartridge — it is unsafe, and damage caused by it is not covered by the warranty.*

**Q: What ammunition should I use?**
*A: Factory-loaded 2½" .410 shotshells that meet SAAMI or C.I.P. specifications — birdshot, buckshot, or slugs. Plastic hulls with clean, fully closed crimps feed best through the loading gate and lifter. Avoid reloads, paper hulls, shells with damaged crimps or rims, and anything longer than 2½".*

**Q: What loads are available in 2½" .410, and what are they for?**
*A: Birdshot (½ oz of No. 6 to No. 9) for small game, pests, and clays; buckshot (3 to 4 pellets of 000, or No. 4 buck) for close defensive use; rifled slugs (¼ oz / 109 gr at about 1,775 fps) for the longest single-projectile shots; and defensive loads such as Federal Personal Defense 000, Winchester PDX1 Defender, and Hornady Critical Defense. Those defensive loads were designed for .410 revolvers and run 30 to 45 percent faster from the EX1500's full-length barrel. See the Load Reference table below.*

**Q: Can I shoot slugs through the EX1500?**
*A: Yes. Use rifled (Foster-type) 2½" slugs with the Cylinder or Improved Cylinder tube installed. Slugs will pass through a Modified or Full tube, but accuracy falls off and choke life suffers; never fire slugs through a turkey choke. Zero the rear sight for your slug at 25 to 50 yards. A 2½" slug leaves the muzzle with about 760 ft-lbs and carries about 455 ft-lbs at 50 yards.*

**Q: Can I shoot buckshot?**
*A: Yes. 2½" 000 buckshot carries 3 to 4 pellets of roughly 70 grains each at about 1,200 fps from a shotgun barrel. Use Cylinder or Improved Cylinder and pattern at 10 to 20 yards; buckshot from a .410 is a close-range load.*

**Q: Can I hunt turkey with the EX1500?**
*A: Yes, with the right load and choke, inside 30 to 35 yards. Choose a 2½" TSS No. 9 or 9.5 turkey load — 3" TSS loads such as Federal Heavyweight will not fit — and a Full or Mobil-pattern .410 turkey choke. Pattern at 30 yards and aim for the head and neck; a red dot on the EX1500's rail makes that much easier than a bead. Check your state regulations — some states set a minimum gauge for turkey.*

**Q: Can I hunt deer or hogs with a .410 slug?**
*A: A 2½" .410 slug delivers about 760 ft-lbs at the muzzle and about 455 ft-lbs at 50 yards, which many states consider too light for deer and which experienced hunters limit to about 40 to 50 yards. Check your state's legal minimums before hunting big game with the EX1500.*

**Q: Is the EX1500 suitable for home defense?**
*A: The EX1500 is designed for hunting and recreational shooting, but with 2½" 000 buckshot or a dedicated .410 defensive load it is effective at room distances with very little recoil. Use the Cylinder or Improved Cylinder tube, pattern your load at 5 to 10 yards, and consider the 18" Ironwolf Tactical, whose forend rail takes a weapon light.*

**Q: How much recoil does the EX1500 have?**
*A: About 7 ft-lbs of free recoil with a 2½" ½ oz load in a 7 lb gun — roughly one third of a 20 gauge and one quarter of a 12 gauge target load. With a 14" length of pull, it is an easy shotgun for new and smaller-framed shooters.*

**Q: Are 2½" .410 shells hard to find?**
*A: No. 2½" target, game, buckshot, and slug loads are stocked by every major maker (Federal, Winchester, Remington, Fiocchi, and others) and are among the most common .410 loads because of the popularity of .410 revolvers.*

**Operation**

**Q: What is the trigger action of the EX1500 series?**
*A: Lever-action with a rebounding hammer mechanism. Cycling the lever ejects the fired hull, cocks the hammer, and chambers the next shell from the tubular magazine.*

**Q: What is the safety type on the EX1500?**
*A: A rebounding hammer safety mechanism, the same as the RAN. After each shot the hammer rebounds off the firing pin and rests clear of it, and it cannot strike the firing pin unless the trigger is pulled. Treat the EX1500 as loaded at all times, keep the chamber empty until you are ready to fire, and make sure the lever is fully closed before pulling the trigger.*

**Q: How do I load and unload it?**
*A: To load, push each shell crimp-end first through the right-side loading gate until it clicks past the gate; the tube holds 5 shells. Cycle the lever fully to chamber a shell. To unload, point the muzzle in a safe direction and cycle the lever to eject each shell until the magazine and chamber are empty, then visually and physically check the chamber and lifter. See the manual for emptying the magazine tube from the front without cycling shells through the action.*

**Q: How do I lower the hammer on a loaded chamber?**
*A: The safest choice is to unload. If you must lower the hammer, keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction, hold the hammer firmly with your thumb, pull the trigger, release the trigger, and ease the hammer forward to its rebound rest position. Never let the hammer fall.*

**Q: Why won't the EX1500 fire?**
*A: The most common reason is a lever that is not fully closed. Close the lever completely, make sure a shell is chambered, and try again. If a chambered shell fails to fire, follow the misfire procedure below.*

**Q: Does the EX1500 eject fired hulls automatically?**
*A: Yes. Each full stroke of the lever ejects the fired hull and feeds the next shell. A short stroke leaves the hull in the action, so cycle briskly and completely.*

**Q: Can I mount a red dot or scope?**
*A: Yes. The Picatinny rail on the adjustable rear sight is a forward, scout-style mount, so use a red dot or a long-eye-relief scope. The Ironwolf Tactical's forend rail and M-LOK slots take lights, lasers, and bipods.*

**Q: What is the length of pull on the EX1500?**
*A: 14 inches on all models.*

**Q: What challenges might left-handed users face with the EX1500, and are there options for left-handed controls?**
*A: The loading gate is on the right side of the receiver, which is less intuitive for left-handed shooters, but the lever and trigger are fully ambidextrous and the walnut stocks are symmetrical. On the Ironwolf Tactical the cheek rest and height adjustments work for either shoulder.*

**Reliability and Maintenance**

**Q: What is the recommended break-in period for the EX1500?**
*A: Approximately 50 to 150 rounds. The lever, lifter, and bolt surfaces smooth noticeably in the first few boxes of shells.*

**Q: What is the minimum recommended shell type or velocity for reliable cycling?**
*A: There is no minimum velocity because the lever-action is cycled by hand, not by the shell. Reliability depends on shell dimensions and the shooter: use 2½" factory shells with clean crimps and cycle the lever with a full, brisk stroke every time.*

**Q: What are common causes of failures to feed (FTF) or eject (FTE) in the EX1500, and what fixes are recommended?**
*A: The most common cause is short-stroking the lever — cycle it fully and briskly every time. Other causes are shells with rolled, soft, or damaged crimps, swollen hulls, shells longer than 2½", a dirty magazine tube or lifter, and excess oil. Fixes: use factory 2½" plastic-hull shells, clean the magazine tube, lifter, and chamber, and lubricate lightly. If a shell hangs on the lifter, keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction, open the lever fully, and clear the shell before continuing.*

**Q: Which specific ammunition brands or types have been known to cause issues in the EX1500, and what alternatives do you recommend?**
*A: Issues relate to shell type rather than brand: reloads with soft or reopened crimps, paper hulls, 3" shells, and shells with damaged rims. Any factory 2½" plastic-hull shell loaded to SAAMI or C.I.P. specifications is recommended.*

**Q: What fixes are recommended for any magazine feed issues in the EX1500?**
*A: First check the shells: 2½" factory loads with clean crimps and undamaged rims. Then inspect the magazine tube for debris, dents, or a weak spring and follower, and make sure you are cycling the lever fully. If feeding problems continue, contact Derya support.*

**Q: What should I do if the EX1500 does not fire after pulling the trigger?**
*A: Keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction and wait 60 seconds in case of a hang fire, then open the lever and eject the shell. If it happens repeatedly with quality ammunition, stop shooting and contact Derya support.*

**Q: How should users troubleshoot squib loads or a stuck shell in the EX1500?**
*A: If a shot sounds or feels weak, stop immediately, unload, and check the bore for a lodged wad or slug — firing behind an obstruction will bulge or burst the barrel. A fired hull stuck in the chamber can be pushed out from the muzzle with a cleaning rod after the choke tube is removed. If an unfired shell is stuck, do not force the lever; keep the muzzle pointed safely and contact Derya support or a qualified gunsmith.*

**Q: What are the recommended cleaning and lubrication procedures for the EX1500?**
*A: After each use, remove the choke tube and clean the bore from the breech with a .410 brush and solvent to remove plastic wad fouling and lead, then wipe the chamber, bolt face, lifter, and loading gate. Clean the choke tube and the barrel's choke threads, apply a thin film of choke grease or anti-seize to the tube threads, and reinstall. Apply a light coat of oil to the lever pivot, bolt rails, and hammer; avoid excess oil, especially in the magazine tube, where it collects debris. Wipe exterior Melonite, nickel, or chrome surfaces with a lightly oiled cloth, and do a full deep clean per the manual periodically.*

**Q: How should the EX1500 be stored?**
*A: Store it unloaded (chamber and magazine tube empty), locked, and inaccessible to children or unauthorized users, away from moisture and heat, with a light film of oil on steel surfaces and a choke tube installed to protect the threads.*

**Q: What is the shelf life of the EX1500 when stored properly, and how long can it remain functional without use?**
*A: There is no fixed shelf life. Stored clean, lightly oiled, and away from moisture and heat, the EX1500 remains functional for decades; springs may eventually need service.*

**Q: In durability tests, how many rounds has the EX1500 survived without failure?**
*A: The EX1500 uses the same lever action as the RAN, which completed approximately 3,000 rounds in factory durability testing without critical mechanical failure.*

**Q: Does changing the trigger spring affect the EX1500's reliability?**
*A: It is not recommended. A lighter spring can change sear engagement and reduce hammer energy, causing light primer strikes, and it voids the warranty.*

**Q: What is the stock trigger pull weight for the EX1500?**
*A: 4.4 lbs.*

**Q: Can I modify or install aftermarket parts on my EX1500?**
*A: Use only factory-included or Derya-supplied parts, plus Mobilchoke-pattern .410 choke tubes and rail-mounted accessories. Modifications, non-factory components, or unqualified gunsmith work void the warranty, and shortening the barrel or removing the buttstock can create an NFA violation. Contact Derya or an authorized distributor for repairs and spare parts.*

**Legal and Compliance**

**Q: Is the EX1500 legal in California, Massachusetts, and Maryland?**
*A: Yes. Lever-action shotguns with a fixed tubular magazine are legal in California, Massachusetts, and Maryland, including the Ironwolf stock. All three EX1500 models are listed as compliant; confirm current requirements with your dealer.*

**Q: Is the EX1500 an NFA item? Is the 18" barrel legal?**
*A: No, the EX1500 is a standard shotgun, not an NFA item. 18 inches is the federal minimum barrel length for a shotgun, and the overall length must remain at least 26 inches. Never shorten the barrel or remove the buttstock — doing so creates a short-barreled shotgun or a weapon made from a shotgun under the NFA.*

**Q: Are the EX1500 and RAN Ironwolf stock and forend interchangeable?**
*A: Yes. The EX1500 uses the same Ironwolf stock and M-LOK forend as the RAN Ironwolf, so RAN furniture and accessories fit. Do not install the RANX pistol grip in place of the buttstock: the EX1500 is classified as a shotgun and must keep a shoulder stock, an 18" or longer barrel, and a 26" or longer overall length.*

**Ownership and Support**

**Q: What items are included in the box for the EX1500?**
*A: The shotgun, a Mobilchoke-pattern choke set, and a Derya bag containing the user manual, WTTA flyer, basic cleaning/polishing cloth, and tool (choke wrench). No locks or detachable magazines are included; the tubular magazine is built into the firearm.*

**Q: What kind of finish is used on the EX1500?**
*A: The Ironwolf Tactical uses black Melonite on all steel parts; the 20" walnut model uses a nickel finish; the 24" walnut model uses engraved hard chrome.*

**Q: Why is the steel receiver better?**
*A: The mono-block steel receiver eliminates jointed components, which gives the EX1500 superior durability and strength, smoother cycling, and less vibration under recoil — and keeps the optics rail true.*

**Q: What makes the Ironwolf buttstock premium?**
*A: It is machined from aluminum with patented adjustments: a QD sling mount, M-LOK slots for an ammo quiver, an adjustable height wheel, and an adjustable cheek rest, so the stock can be fitted to the shooter and the optic.*

**Q: What is the detailed manufacturing process for the EX1500 receiver and other components like the bolt or barrel?**
*A: The receiver is forged from 1040 steel, CNC machined, and heat-treated. The barrel is 4140 steel with a smooth bore and internal Mobilchoke-pattern threads cut at the muzzle. Steel parts are then finished in-house in black Melonite, nickel, or hard chrome depending on the model.*

**Q: Where can I find the owner's manual and video tutorials?**
*A: The EX1500 manual is available in English and Spanish at derya.us under Support → Manuals. Video tutorials for the RAN platform (same lever action) are linked at the top of this article.*

**Q: What's the difference between the EX1500 and the RAN?**
*A: The RAN is a centerfire rifle in .357 Magnum, .44 Magnum, or .45 Long Colt with a rifled, muzzle-threaded barrel and 8- to 10-round capacity; the EX1500 is a .410 bore shotgun with a smooth, choke-threaded barrel and 5-round capacity. They share the lever action, sights, and furniture, but barrels are not interchangeable between them.*

**Q: What's the difference between the EX1500 and the EX1300 .410?**
*A: The EX1300 is a 2-shot over/under with a 28" barrel and Mobilchoke tubes, built for clays and wingshooting. The EX1500 is a 5+1 lever-action repeater with the same Mobilchoke system in 18", 20", or 24" barrels, rifle-style sights, and an optics rail, built for small game, pest control, slugs, and buckshot.*

**Q: Where do I get spare parts and choke tubes?**
*A: Spare parts and accessories are available from Derya Parts & Accessories at derya.us. No FFL is required for parts, and the EX1500 has no detachable magazines. Additional .410 Mobilchoke-pattern tubes are available from Derya and from Beretta, Carlson's, Trulock, and other makers. Many RAN parts and furniture fit the EX1500.*

**Q: What warranty comes with the EX1500, and how do I activate it?**
*A: Derya provides a limited lifetime warranty to the original purchaser; it is non-transferable and covers the product in its intended use. Abuse, work by unqualified gunsmiths, unauthorized alterations, improper ammunition, and normal wear are excluded. To register or request service, visit derya.us/customer-service-support/, email support@deryaarms.us, or contact your dealer or your country's distributor.*

**Q: Where is the serial number located on the EX1500?**
*A: The serial number is engraved on the receiver. It is used for legal and warranty matters — record it and store it in a secure location away from the firearm.*

**Q: What's the price range for EX1500 models?**
*A: MSRP ranges from $799 to $999 depending on the model. Check derya.us for current MSRP; retail pricing varies by dealer.*

**Q: My EX1500 is marked PARANTEZ — is it a genuine Derya?**
*A: Yes. The EX1500 is manufactured in Türkiye by Parantez R&D Defense, a subsidiary of Derya, and is imported, marked, and supported by Derya in Jacksonville, Florida. Warranty and service go through Derya.*

**Q: I don't see my firearm, item number, UPC, or color listed for EX1500 — where is it?**
*A: The website lists firearm types only; each type includes several variants. The three EX1500 models and their UPCs are in the table below. If your item number, color, or UPC is not listed, it may be a dealer or factory exclusive — contact support@deryaarms.us with the serial number and UPC from the box.*

| Defensive loads (Federal Personal Defense 000, Winchester PDX1 Defender, Hornady Critical Defense) | Varies by load | Full shotgun velocity — 30–45% faster than from a .410 revolver | Cylinder or Improved Cylinder | Inside 15 yards |

Figures are typical published values for 2½" .410 factory loads; velocities and energies vary by maker and barrel length.

**Expected Pattern Spread (No. 7½ Lead Shot)**

| **Distance** | **Full (F)** | **Modified (M)** | **Improved Cylinder (IC)** | **Cylinder (C)** |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 20 Yards | 12–14" | 16–18" | 18–20" | 20–22" |
| 30 Yards | 18–20" | 22–24" | 26–28" | 30–32" |
| 40 Yards | 24–26" | 28–30" | 32–34" | 38–40" |

Pattern diameter is similar to a 12 gauge with the same choke, but a 2½" .410 carries about ½ oz of shot — less than half a 12-gauge field load — so pattern density thins quickly past 25 yards. Use Modified or Full for small game past 20 yards, and pattern your own gun with the load you intend to hunt with.
